Pause. These activities grounded in neuroscience will give you a chance for self-care and influence how you show up in the classroom. Every teacher deserves this set of tools. We have selected these modules from our popular Emotional Intelligence Course as these competencies underpin Mindset & Wellbeing.

This themed package consists of eight short modules, each developing a core competency and giving you an actionable tool to practice the competency. Build your own programme by selecting from the short engaging sessions below. ​You can select one per quarter or combine a few together in one session.

1. Bust That Myth – Five Secrets of Wellbeing

  • Duration: 120 minutes

Daniel Goleman says “Ultimate wellbeing has nothing to do with what’s outside us”. Is this even possible given the year we have faced? Recent research unpacks what burnout is and what causes it and busts the myth: Burnout is from overwork. Read our blog The New Teaching Reality that will affirm the need to for every teacher to have this tool. The Interactive Scale can also be used successfully with learners from grade 4 – 12.

2. Own the Outcome – Success Formula

  • Duration: 90 minutes

Yes, there is a little equation that gets us to take 100% responsibility. Using Jack Canfield’s success formula we will unpack a recent outcome and consider all options. Seeing this formula in action gives perspective and puts you in control of your destiny. This session busts the myth that we are entitled to success and happiness – and that someone else should be giving us what we want. This little formula could change your life. Can be used across all grades.

3. Connect the Dots – Beneath The Iceberg

  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Tool: Iceberg Beliefs

Taking a deep dive under the surface to explore what lies beneath our actions, equips us to make clever choices in the moment. Using a heatwave of your own wisdom to melt your Iceberg Beliefs will  create space for growth and reflection. Warning – don’t believe everything you think.

4. Paint a Rock – Exercise Gratitude

  • Duration: 60 minutes

Taking a proactive perspective of hope and possibility is an actionable and learnt response, giving you ownership of your decisions and outcomes. Discover how exercising gratitude can refocus and shift perspective. Optional In-the-room team building exercise 3 hours. Watch one of our team building sessions in action.

5. Lights, Camera, Action – Let the Movie Begin

  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Tool: Video Camera Review

The brain is a survival tool. It’s not practical for it to assess every single situation as a new event, so it creates patterns to follow.You have an experience, you react in a certain way, and you survive! The brain decides that was successful. These patterns, over time, become a path. We explore an incident the way a video camera may record it and explore patterns, both helpful and harmful. Excellent activity to use with high school learners.

6. Drop An Assumption – What Can You Let Go Of?

  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Tool: Assumptions Question Bank

We all carry assumptions with us — assumptions about what is and isn’t possible, about what people want, what will work, and what won’t. Using the marshmallow experiment as an icebreaker, this exercise forces us to challenge these and put everything on the table. Teams will draw up a list of all the assumptions about a current topic — true or not — and challenge them. This exercise is so insightful to unpack with high school learners.

7. Hall of Mirrors – Reframing Thoughts

  • Duration: 90 minutes

How many different angles can you see? Using the power of reframing this session will shift your perspective on any given situation that is blocking you. Feel more clear, resourceful, empowered and optimistic about your circumstances. Our Reframing Question Bank is an essential takeaway tool that will revolutionize the way you see your world.

8. GPS Brain Hack – How to Outsmart Your Negativity Bias

  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Tool: GPS Hack Template

Ever wonder why the bad stuff sticks and why at times your staff can get so immersed in problems? Neuroscience shares that we are hardwired for this stickiness. It presents a real challenge when we embark on change initiatives or process improvements. Carey will share the powerful impact of negativity bias when trying to embrace change and will offer a practical brain hack that you can use to get unstuck. Finding momentum and shifting from judgement to curiosity using the GPS hack.
