What’s
happening in Australia? This is what Ken Wall, CEO of The Thinking Network
has to say:
“Although firmly based on the
existing adult and sports profiles, designed by Kobus Neethling, additional
research and development was carried out in Australia with the help of
members of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Australia. Mal
Neville, the Head Professional at Eastern Golf Club in Melborne, Australia,
began a series of experiments carried out with the approval of those coming
to him for lessons. Each student was questioned and profiled and based on
this understanding Mal then chose the most appropriate teaching strategy.
Those from the L1 quadrant expected a clear outcome and some quantifiable
measures of improvement. The L2 people needed to know exactly where to place
their hands in relation to the grip and the step-by-step analysis of the
swing. The R2 people needed to be encouraged and to get it right and to have
strong support. Following this research the new golf instrument was written
based on the tried and tested construction of the NBI adult profile” June

Styles of professional golfers:
They all play the same game, but their approach is highly differentiated by
their mental preferences. Here is an extract from Ned Herrmann’s book
entitled The Whole Brain Business Book in which he gives further
insight:
“Particularly
visible are the antics of Lee Travino and Fuzzy Zoeller as they crack jokes,
whistle as they walk, and relate to the gallery. Their open, loose,
gregarious style is in sharp contrast to golfers like Gary Player, Tom
Weiskopf, and Jack Nicklaus. These golfers are dead serious, highly
self-critical and very deliberate in preparing for each shot. In contrast,
Lee Travino will typically be talking to the gallery and then walk up to his
ball, have one practice shot, and fire away.”
